What do you like about working at
Eldorado Emerson?
It's wonderful being with the children and seeing little miracles every day.
Describe a memory or favorite
story about Eldorado Emerson:
One day I was pushing a little boy in a swing, and as he went back in forth, he was translating a word in different languages. He said "It's <this>
in Spanish, it's <this> in German, it's <this> in French, it's <this> in English" (I don't remember the specific word). His mother was German, and at Eldorado Emerson he was learning Spanish and French. Today he works internationally and spends much time in Germany. He's been a linguist since age 6 or 7!
We moved into the current school location classrooms on March 19, 1964. I remember that everyone wrote their names in the cement, and today I enjoy being reminded of all of the students who were here that day.
When I was teaching first grade, our classroom windows looked out towards where our new school buildings were being built; everyday we learned something new about construction! One day as the workers opened their lunchboxes and thermoses, one of my students remarked, "I didn't know daddies ate lunch!"
I'm currently helping a few students with their math, and I recently introduced the place value chart. They love learning the different number periods, and have become so excited about it. One of them begged to take the chart home so that she could work on it! I love seeing students excited to learn, and we are a school who prioritizes a love of learning in all students.
How would you describe the school in one sentence?
"The school where every child is valued."
